Ardnamurchan Distillery

“Global Sustainable Distillery of the Year 2024”

In 2012 Organic Architects were commissioned by Adelphi to design this remote new distillery on the West Coast of Scotland.

The traditional appearance, with a pagoda roof, was used to signify that this was indeed a distillery, as it was one of the first new craft distilleries.

The boiler uses local timber to make steam for distilling and local wind power for electricity.

The building was so remote that concrete from the nearest batching plant was in danger of setting before it reached the site. To mitigate this a rendered cladding system was used.

It was our first distillery, working with Dr Jim Swan and Forsyths of Rothes.
